Bad weather can be very scary for families with children with special health care needs. We are here day and night to provide mental health, medical, and social care, as well as support in finding shelter and resources for our patients and their families across New York.

NY-Alert (Statewide): Sign up for emergency notifications at https://alert.ny.gov 

Shelters in New York:  

New York City: Call 311 for shelter information, warming centers, and emergency services. Cold Weather “Code Blue” shelters are activated during extreme cold. 

New York State: Call 211 or 1-888-892-1162 for local shelters, food resources, and social services throughout New York State.

Prepare Emergency Items

  • Water (one gallons per person per day) 
  • Non-perishable food and a non-electric can opener 
  • First aid kit 
  • Flashlight  
  • Cell phone 
  • Back-up batteries, fully charged 
  • Charging cords and extension cords 
  • Extra supply of medications, formula, DME 
  • A written or printed Care Plan with medical team contact information  
  • Cash in small bills 
  • Extra clothing and blankets 
  • Government issued-ID
