SNAP and WIC Changes: What This Means for Your Family
November 10th, 2025
At Imagine Pediatrics, we know that caring for a child with special health care needs can be stressful, especially when programs that help families access food change. Our care teams are available 24/7 to help families navigate challenges like this and connect you to trusted community resources.
As the federal government shutdown continues, many families are worried about SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children Program) benefits. Below, we’ve gathered the latest information and resources for families in DC, Florida, and Texas to help you stay informed and supported.
What’s Happening
The federal government has been partly shut down since October 1st. This has affected programs that help families buy food, like SNAP and WIC.
November 10, 2025 update
- Families will receive their full SNAP benefits. States are being given the funds to pay these benefits in full. This will happen either:
- Within 48 hours, following a court decision which will be finalized very soon, or
- By the end of this week, or the beginning of next, if the government shutdown ends.
- It is now certain that reduced 65% payments will not happen.
What Families Can Do Now
1. Check Your Current Benefits
- Any money already on your EBT card is still available to use.
- You can apply or renew your SNAP case during the shutdown, but new deposits may not load until the government shutdown ends.
- Make sure your contact information is up to date on your state benefits portal or app.
2. Stay Informed
- Watch for messages from your local SNAP or WIC office.
- Follow your state’s website and social media pages for the latest updates.
- You can also dial 2-1-1 for food assistance, pantry locations, or emergency help.
3. Plan Ahead
- Use any remaining benefits now for shelf-stable foods like pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, and canned goods.
- Make a short grocery list and budget weekly.
- Look into free school meals or local food programs if needed.

Common Questions
Q: Will I lose my benefits permanently?
A: No. Once the government reopens, missed benefits will be paid. The delay does not mean your case is closed.
Q: Can I still apply for SNAP or WIC?
A: Yes. You can apply or renew your case. It will be reviewed, but you might not receive new benefits until the shutdown ends.
Q: Where can I get food now?
A: Call 2-1-1 or visit feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank for local pantries and meal sites.
Q: How long will this last?
A: A final court decision is expected within 48 hours or the shutdown could end by the end of the week. Either way, states will have the funds to pay full SNAP benefits for November.
